Greeted by an almost unbeatably romantic setting which sees Arabian style tents pitched beneath the open skies, perching on the edge of a palm tree strewn beach, Amaseena has nearly seduced you before you’ve even taken a seat.

Unfortunately it’s when you get down to the business of eating that the spell is broken. While there is a wide range of dishes to choose from, there is no menu, so the option is the buffet or... well, the buffet.

And though starters live up to expectation, with an almost inexhaustible variety of hot and cold mezze, including delicious hummus and falafels worth writing home about, the same can, regrettably, not be said for the main courses.

There may be an impressive selection of meat and seafood on offer but, while perfectly satisfactory, they do nothing spectacular enough to wow you, and fail to warrant the fairly steep price tag.

The juicy chicken may press all the right buttons, but bland lamb offerings and distinctly unexciting beef and fish lets the side down. It’s a lovely setting, but you’re unlikely to return.
